Massively popular and deservedly so, the only reason you find them here on this site (which is supposed to focus on games) is that this is the by-now-hard-to-find native Windows 95 version, first released as part of X-COM Collector's Edition in 1998 :) If you have never played Terror from the Deep, you can find plenty of mostly positive reviews, including this review at GameSpot, about the game. X-COM and its sequel Terror from the Deep are two veritable strategy masterpieces that need no introduction. Executing the installation file there will install the game so that it does not require the CD to play, however the instead of an introductory and game-end video it will be a slideshow instead.X-COM: Terror from the Deep Collector's Edition On the root directory of the X-COM: Terror from the Deep CD, there is a directory \HARDDISK. Playing Terror from the Deep without the CD-ROM The affected files will be (assuming that you installed it to the default path) C:\MPS\TERROR.BAT and C:\MPS\TFTD\TERROR.BAT. Just search for the drive letter you installed from and change it to the letter that you will mount it to. Alternatively, you may want to edit the BAT files yourselves if you decide to give it a letter change. Make sure you mount the CD back to the same drive letter you installed it to, or else it will complain about a missing CD.

Run INSTALL.EXE found on the CD and they will install by default to C:\MPS\TFTD. You will need to mount the CD for installation and also every time the game is played. When the disk versions are tracked down, more information will be added. This guide describes the CD-ROM version of this game only. Note that this game is very popular, thus there are various version of the program for DOS, and even a special collectors edition for Windows. This version is preconfigured to launch through DOSBox. X-Com: Terror from the Deep can be purchased from Steam.
